Austin is not one uniform housing search. A downtown condominium, a rental close to your daily destinations and a detached home can come with very different costs and responsibilities. Ferda Yaras helps you organize the questions before you build a shortlist, in English or Turkish.
Start with an address, not just a neighborhood name
Map your regular destinations and compare the actual route from each property. Visit at the times you would normally travel where possible; neither a city name nor a map distance guarantees a short commute. If you are considering a condominium, ask about parking, association charges, building rules and which maintenance responsibilities are shared.
Separate the asking price from the cost of living there
For a purchase, request property-specific tax, insurance and association information and discuss affordability with your lender. For a rental, ask which utilities, parking charges and recurring fees are outside the advertised rent. Austin’s city-services website is a useful starting point for 3-1-1, municipal services and address-related questions; service eligibility must be checked for the actual property.
Before your first conversation
- Compare apartment, condo and detached-home responsibilities rather than treating them as interchangeable.
- Check the address for service boundaries, school assignment, flood information and any relevant restrictions with authoritative providers.
- Bring your budget, preferred move date and three must-have features to your first conversation.
